The healthcare industry is going through a massive amount of changes. The eco-system is being looked at closely. The business and service models are being revamped drastically. The demand for real-time care is increasing. The millennial generation are expecting care to be done their way. Healthcare startups are being produced and funded at an incredible rate. And most of all, the rapid technological innovation (robotics, sensors, internet of things, big data and analytics, nano technology, computer vision, cognitive computing, augmented reality, etc) is bringing a lot of really creative, unique and advance approaches to healthcare. Due to these advancements, we will need to have the right kind of workforce to create, sustain and support these newer and more complex companies and solutions. We need to think about creating new categories of jobs that will enhance the traditional healthcare jobs as we know it today. We need to produce "unicorns"! The question is "What kind of innovation, design, science, and technology education do we need to support the healthcare of the future?"

This exciting panel of experts will discuss what kind of workforce we need to produce to ensure we can support the needs of the healthcare industry and our community.

Speakers / Panelists:

Salomon G. Davila, Dean, Career & Technical Education, Pasadena City College - Dean got his BS in Mechanical Engineering degree at MIT and moved on to obtaining his Master of Education in Teaching Curriculum and Secondary Education in the discipline of Physics in Harvard University. Some notable work experience came from his own engineering consulting firm called Telagrafica and from there he moved on to PCC to be a tenured full-time faculty member of the Engineering Design Technology and Engineering Programs and now the Dean of the School of CTE since 2012: overseeing CTE programs, Extension Courses, Small Business Development Center, Perkins CTEA grants and Title V HIS grant. Dean is part of the Academic Senate Faculty Representative in Planning and Priorities Committee, Academic Senate Division Representative in Institutional Effectiveness Committee, Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena Educational Foundation and Pasadena City College STEM Pathway, and a Member of Writing Group for Section IIA: Student Learning Programs and Services.

Dr. Barbara Freund, Dean of Health Sciences and School of Allied Health, Pasadena City College - Dr. Barbara Freund recently joined the faculty at Pasadena City College as the Dean of the Health Sciences Division after 12 years at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. Prior to arriving at PCC, Freund served as an associate professor of medicine and vice-chair for clinical research in the Department of Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

David Lee, President & CEO of Huntington Medical Foundation - Huntington Medical Foundation provides pediatric, internal medicine, specialty and urgent care services to the community of San Gabriel Valley. David Lee holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Saint Mary’s College and has more than two decades of experience as a healthcare executive. He is committed to transform the delivery care model, provide quality medical services, an excellent patient experience, and a lifetime of good health to the community.

Jessica Rousset, Director, CHLA Center for Innovation - Jessica oversees intellectual property, licensing and business development at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The CHLA Center for Innovation facilitates the adoption of innovations to accelerate research and improve healthcare. She is Co-Director of the Southern California Center for Technology and Innovation in Pediatrics (SC-CTIP), an FDA-funded pediatric medical device consortium. She received her master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France.

Mark Wildeman, Director of Business Enablement, Kaiser Permanente - Mark is a veteran IT and Healthcare professional. Over the past decade he has created workforce development strategies for the Kaiser Permanente IT organization. His organization was recently recognized as the "IT Team of the Year" by the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ). A native of Canada, Mark could skate before he walked and is an avid hockey fan. He’s on twitter at @anangrycanadian.
