Hello All:

Please join me in a sandwich run and /or socks donation for the homeless. We will be delivering bagged lunches and socks to some of the city's homeless.

YOUR CHOICE: You can either prepare a minimum of 10 bagged lunches or provide 10 pairs of socks for distribution, or both! Please feel free to also bring hats and gloves.

A Sandwich Run involves delivering nutritious bagged lunches to the homeless by walking well travelled routes in downtown Toronto where street people live. You will be delivering the lunches with an experienced team leader, who will guide you every step of the way.

LUNCHES:
We require each volunteer to prepare a minimum of 10 bagged lunches ahead of the actual sandwich run.

The lunches are very specific and include the following items only:
1 sandwich using white, whole wheat or soft bun bread with peanut butter & jam or 100% beef bologna & processed cheese; no substitutes, please

NO BUTTER OR OTHER SPREADS
1 fruit drink box or 1 bottle of water
1 snack item: cookies, granola bar, raisin box, etc.

No carbonated beverages, No glass containers, No salty snacks

Lunches can be packed in a paper or plastic bag. Plastic bags hold up much better in inclement weather!

***We will explain the reason for the contents of the lunch during an orientation period prior to beginning our walking route. The contents of the lunch are very important.

TIME:
The entire STREET OUTREACH experience will last about 2 hours in the evening. Before starting our walking route, we will provide an orientation including some health and safety guidelines. At the end of our route, which will be near Yonge/Queen, your team leader will spend about 15 informative debriefing minutes discussing various aspects of homelessness and encouraging an open general discussion. There is also an opportunity to grab a coffee, relax, and chat.

WHERE:
Our meetup starting point location OUTSIDE AND IN FRONT OF 620 Spadina Ave (St. Vladimir Institute), a few blocks south of Spadina and Bloor. If you decide to park your car nearby, please note you will have to take the subway from our final point, Yonge/Queen, to get back to pick up your car.

Project417 welcomes all volunteers and promotes diversity and healthy community development. The team leaders who are facilitating the sandwich run are from various faith backgrounds. Our main purpose is to show that we care about our homeless and street involved friends by having friendly conversations. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many thanks and I look forward to volunteering with you!
