Details
HIKE BEGINS AT 10AM. Ends SaturDAY.
Coosa Trail One Day Hike: ** THIS IS A 13.5 MILE "STRENUOUS/ DIFFICULT" HIKE***
*** THIS IS A 13.5 mile loop hike *** Hiking Coosa Backcountry Trail in Vogel State Park. The trail is considered to be strenuously difficult and is NOT recommended as a one-day hike to inexperienced hikers. This group will set a 2.5-3.0 mph pace on some very challenging terrain.
There are many descriptions of Coosa Backcountry Trail online; in short, it is a 13.5 miles strenuous to difficult loop, Coosa Bald and Slaughter Mountain are the highpoints. Total altitude gain: 5,159 ft. We will climb and descend over 1 mile in elevation crossing 3 ridgelines.
Everyone is welcome to join, but you have to realistically evaluate your own fitness level. Please decide wisely! No sweeper on this hike. Chances are you won’t enjoy the hike if you overestimate your abilities: while this is not quite trail running, neither is it a leisurely walk in a park. You've been warned!

Note the 3.5 mile long stretch of the trail up to the second top. This requires stamina and lots of water. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this"?
