New Year, New Views - Hike to Mt. Hollywood

Details
http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/a/5/8/event_192039512.jpegHappy New Year! In the spirit of getting out and getting active, this is a simple beginner-level hike culminating in some amazing 360 degree views of LA and the valleys. Our journey will begin at the Griffith Park Observatory and ascend towards the incredible viewpoints of Mount Hollywood.
Total distance runs about 4 miles on a mostly dirt trail. The incline can be intense at parts, but this is generally a good hike for beginners and young families, and dogs are welcome too!
Expect the full event to take about 2-2.5 hours. We hope you can join us for this first hike of 2013!
Call Ian at (213) 447-8264 you have trouble finding the group.
PARKING
Free parking available at Griffith Observatory, or along the roads leading up to it. If the parking lot is full, you may need to park along the road, so allow for some extra time and walking. We are beginning before the observatory opens so most of the parking competition will be from other hikers.
WHAT TO BRING
Water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and dress according to the weather. We may hang out at the top for a while so feel free to bring a snack to recharge.
IN CASE OF RAIN
The trail may get too slippery and muddy if there is a lot of rain, so we'll keep an eye on the weather and potentially reschedule if we need to.
THE OBSERVATORY
After the hike is officially over, we'll be back in the Observatory parking lot, so you may want to spend a little extra time visiting the observatory while you're there. General admission is free. See more details about the Observatory here. (http://www.griffithobservatory.org/general.html)
