We will cover a lot of ground, visit many cool areas, and some very interesting ones. Some of the hike is on trails, but most of the hike is on paved paths, back alleys, and small streets.
From the Art Museum we head south on the Schuylkill River Path. We cross the river on Walnut St, then head through Penn Park and a labyrinth of back alleys at Penn emerging near 34 th St. We explore the hidden Dupont Crescent Trail which continues down the Schuylkill and exits at Greys Ferry Ave. We take Greys Ferry towards the city and explore the cool Naval Hospital area before taking the South Street Bridge back to U Of Penn. We meander through the Penn and Drexel campuses to Powelton Village and Mantua before we hit the Zoo and Fairmount park. We'll zip through Memorial Hall, the Japanese House, and the Horticultural Center before heading down to the Martin Luther King Drive. We take the Girard Ave Bridge back across the river, then head over to Lemon Hill before returning to the starting point. Plan 4-4.5 hours, 11-14 miles.
If time allows I'd love to take the Strawberry Mansion bridge.
Caution: You should be able to walk 4 hours without much of a break. You should have recently hiked 10 miles in conditions detailed above. Some hills.
To carpool from Hill House meet at 1045 am. Each carpooler chips in $3 at the start. Email me 3-4 days in advance and receive a reply.
