Explore Wild Wissahickon

Please CLICK HERE before rsvping.

Join me to explore trails less traveled in the wild (I saw a ferocious chipmunk the other day) Wissahickon Creek part of Fairmount Park.
We hike at a moderate pace for about 2.5 to 3 hours. The terrain is hilly with lots of ups and downs. Each month I forge a different route or get lost in another area depending on your point of view. This is not a hike for those who want to go straight down one trail. We go up, down, around, back, hit dead ends, reverse course, and so on

In warm weather we often eat outside at Top of the Hill which is just a few blocks away. In the winter we often head to Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting which has everything from beer and burgers, to pizza, to mexican, to any other type of food.

CAUTIONs: If you haven't recently hiked at least 7 miles, then you should first try one of our shorter duration hikes. Area is HILLY; maybe some BUSHWHACKING.

Use this Google Map link to the starting point at Hill House.

I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. It was a great hike with a great group of people with a great fearless leader, Sydney. I really appreciate the feedback, it means a lot to me.

What a beautiful hike with a great group -- magical in the snow. I can't wait to see the pics. The "hilly" description was not an exaggeration! After a few more hikes, the uphill portions should get easier! Thanks, Sidney!

The US Weather forecast for Saturday indicates a few inches of snow. Snow is no problem for hiking.

Will the hike take place despite the forecasted snow storm?

I will check the forecast closer to event date, a day or two before, to see if it's a go. Snow is usually no problem for hiking. Driving to the event location may be. Hope this answers your question.

Sidney, is this a dog friendly hike for particularly energetic canines?

Dogs must be friendly to people and other dogs. You also need to prevent folks from tripping over the leash and/or your dog. There is a doggy page at http://www.hikingarou...
