Camping in Mecca

Details
Camping in Mecca is free! After our hike through Ladders Canyon, we will find a place to set up camp. If you are not going on the hike, but want to come camp with us, please let me know so we can be sure to identify a way to meet. There must be at least five people signed up for the overnight camping or it will be canceled. Rain also cancels this event. This event is cross posted with other Meetups.
The Plan:
Bring your own camping supplies: tent, sleeping bag (it will be cold!), flashlight, stove, firewood etc. food and water for yourself http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/c/1/2/event_21519954.jpegand a side dish to share at dinner. Please note what you will bring in your RSVP.
We will spend Sunday visiting Salvation Mountain. This is NOT a hike... it is one man's art project, he believes is inspired by God. Check out the website for more info: http://www.salvationmountain.us (http://www.salvationmountain.us/)
Interesting tidbit: Huell Howser's California's Gold, after almost 14 years, made a return visit to film an update on the mountain. It will air Sunday, March 29th on the local PBS station KCET in L.A.
We will also visit the nearby Slab City: http://hubpages.com/hub/Slab-City-California-The-Last-Free-Place
Please do not sign up for this trip if you cannot show respect for a different kind of lifestyle.
Please adhere to a "Leave No Trace" philosophy when camping with this group. That means you will not leave toilet paper on the ground for others to find. Bring ziplock bags and pack it out!
You are responsible for yourself. NEVER RELY ON ANYONE ELSE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!! Know your limits and know where you are going and what camping overnight involves. Come prepared! When you RSVP, you acknowledge that the organizer assumes no liability.
PLEASE BE COURTEOUS AND KEEP YOUR RSVP CURRENT. DON'T LEAVE ME EXPECTING YOU AND WORRYING THAT YOU MIGHT BE LOST. I HAVE A SMART PHONE AND WILL CHECK TO SEE WHO IS COMING RIGHT BEFORE THE EVENT STARTS.
