Baldy Bash #1 on Saturday, April 4th: Mt Baldy via Ski Hut trail, return via Devil's Backbone.

Baldy Bash #2 on Saturday, April 11th: Mt Baldy via Register Ridge, return via Devil's backbone (optional: mad dash down/up North Baldy)

Baldy Bash #3 on Saturday, April 18th: 3-peaks via Ice House Canyon (Cucamonga, Big Horn and Ontario Peaks)

Baldy Bash #4 on Saturday, April 25th: Mt. Baldy via Register Ridge, Dawson Peak, Pine Peak

This is a fun, strenuous series of hikes to prepare for the best of hiking yet to come in Spring, Summer and Fall of 2015. By committing to this hike, you have either recently hiked and smashed Mt. Wilson with me, have hiked with me before on a similarly strenuous hike, or have both the mental and physical conditioning to enjoy training on this mountain.

It is vital for you to bring a positive mental attitude, a lotta heart and mental muscle, and at least 3 liters of hydration or be shunned and neatly excused from joining us. We will hike at a moderate pace (total average speed of 2.0 mph and above), with a few brief stops along the way to regroup, if necessary.

DEPARTURE TIME

Trail head: @ 8:00 AM

Route: Ski Hut trail (up) & Devil's Backbone (down)

DISTANCE: Total miles 12'ish (5 up, plus 7 down - i.e., no mechanical ski lift)

Elevation Gain: ~ 4,000 ft

Duration: 6 to 7 hours

ABOUT THE HIKING TRAIL:

Driving Direction:

Take the 210 east and exit on Baseline Road (exit 52). Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp on to Baseline Road. Make the next right on to Padua Avenue. Drive 1.7 miles and turn right onto Mount Baldy Road (there will be a traffic light). Continue up Mount Baldy Road for seven miles to Mount Baldy Village (where there is a visitor center) and drive another 1.8 mile to the junction of Mount Baldy Road and Ice House Canyon Road. Turn left at the intersection and drive another 2.3 miles to the Manker Flats parking area near the intersection of Mount Baldy Road and Falls Road.
