De-duplicating the Facebook object graph w Hive & Interactive Programming w Hive

We have another exciting speaker for the evening. Matthew Moloney will be presenting his stunning interactive programming interface to Hive!

Bio: Matthew Moloney is the founder of Tsunami (tsunami.io (http://tsunami.io/)). Matthew previously worked on Big Data tooling at eBay and Microsoft and is particularly interested in Functional Programming and Machine Learning.

Abstract: Many common mistakes in Hive programming are preventable and waste both user time and cluster time. Matt will present an interface that not only prevents these mistakes but is able to give you helpful hints while your typing.

We are back with an exciting talk! Join us at the Facebook office to hear how the inventors of Apache Hive use it to de-duplicate data in their object graph, e.g. merging data from IMDB and Netflix objects to identify the underlying unique movies.

Abhishek Doshi, a member of the London FB engineering team, will give the talk. Abhi grew up in California, studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley and started at Facebook in August of 2009. He worked on Ads, platform payments, and after moving to London in December of 2012 joined the Facebook platform entities team. One of the main goals of the platform entities team is to allow users to easily express the things they’re connected to (i.e the books they read, the movies they watch, the tv shows they like, etc) and to (subject to privacy preferences) provide that information to the user’s friends in interesting ways.
