I'm starting this group because I had a wonderful homebirth experience with my first child in Dec. 2011, and I'm planning to have another homebirth with my second child due in early July. I want to find a small group of women who have had a homebirth or who are now pregnant and considering homebirth as an option. I want to build a support system for us as we go through this unique experience together. I want women to know that there are resources and communities who believe that birth is a natural process, not a reason to be hospitalized. I think it will be fun to find likeminded individuals to share info and birth stories with, so that we feel empowered by our decisions to bring our children into the world in the comfort of our homes. I hope to also involve our families, including kids and husbands/partners on occasion. Once members of this group give birth, I'd like to continue the support by organizing food drop-offs for the new baby's family. Before I started having my own kids, I was a nanny for 11 years, and I know it can be tricky to find good childcare options. Therefore, I would also be interested in starting a babysitting co-op amongst our group members to relieve new moms as they ease into motherhood. It can be challenging to make time for ourselves, but it is so important for our well-being. Meetups will include taking walks/hikes, meeting for coffee/tea or meals, sharing books & ideas, sharing recipes, movie nights, outings to farmers markets, trips to parks & museums, etc. Let's build a circle of support and encouragement as we walk this path together!
P.S. - added by Alex, the new organizer, on 9/16/13. The above was written by the previous organizer before I took over, and I want to keep it intact. I would like to preserve the spirit of this group as a place for like-minded mamas to find support and encouragement. I have a homebirth 15 years ago, and it was the most beautiful experience in my life. I hope more women have this wonderful experience.
