This particular approach uses store-bought lye, olive oil, and a blender. It's good for having soap that's simultaneously superior and cheaper, but it's not end-of-the-world soap. I do want to make soap "the hard way" some time, with rendered animal fat and lye made from wood ash, but have yet to get that lined up (sourcing lard and troubleshooting the processes). Just so you know.
