Speed Boats (like sailing boat) generally stay more often on mooring than out on the sea and cost more in maintenance and mooring than for fun.
Here in Hong Kong, one can not rent boat for week ends on his own, unless having a pilot. but less freedom.
However I believe it is a pity living in HK, having all these islands next door and generally good weather conditions exept summer time, and not to enjoy it on sunny days, unless staying on crowdy and polluted beaches.
After one year here I come to the conclusion that the best is to
1- buy good condition second hand speed boats (can be found from 40k to 80 k),
2- find moorings in Aberdeen, Sai Kung or DB (at around 2,5k per month).
3- and share it between interested owners and members with the purpose of actively using the boats and insuring good maintainance, so that owners and menbers can cruise on well maintained boats for very low investment.
4- organise week end trips and meet new people sharing the same passion.
My proposal : if you are like, new in hong kong or not a boat owner, looking for a good speed boat with low investment and ready to share, just leave me a message and when we are enough, we join, meet and decide on wich boat to purchase, and define rules on sharing and maintenance between owners and menbers.
Note that you need a hong kong licence here (I passed the exam last year).
People just interested to use the boat for trips to the islands, wakeboarding, kitesurfing, Diving or any type of watersports or island hoping may join as well, the idea is to have a boat well maintained used every week end for the pleasure and benefit of all.
