Play time at the Beach!

Let’s meet at Galveston Island State Park at 11:00 am.

Directions:  The park can be reached from Interstate 45 by exiting right on 61st Street and traveling south on 61st Street to it’s intersection with Seawall Boulevard, and then right (west) on Seawall (FM 3005) 10 miles to the park entrance.  Shortly after you pass 13 Mile Rd on your right, you will see a park entrance on the left.  After you turn left and pay the entrance fee, turn left again on the park road and then you will see a parking lot on your left.  Anyone who wants to carpool should put something in the comments for the event.

Galveston Island State Park Entrance Fee:  Adults - $5.00, Children 12 years and Under: Free

Amenities:  There is lots of beach access, as well as hiking trails across FM 3005 in case anyone wants to take advantage of those.

State law and park rules require that dogs remain ON-LEASH.  I recommend a long line leash if you don’t have one.  ($10-$15 at PetSmart)  Don't forget to bring water for your dog.

How to find us:  I will wear a Red Shirt and my Whippet Mix that is Black w/White Points (approx 40 lbs.) will be wearing a Red Bandana.  Since this a road trip for many of us, I doubt that everyone will arrive at a precise time.  Considering that, lets meet on the beach across from the parking area.

In case you get lost or can’t find us, my phone number is[masked]-7382.

I found several restaurants that allow dogs on the patio, but I also received a few specific requests from the RSVPs, so I decided to leave the decision up to the folks that actually make it to the event.  I’ll have the list of restaurants ready and we can make a decision once we all get hungry!  (I’m thinking 12:30 – 1:30 pm for lunch, maybe later if we decide to hike a little.)

Forecast:  The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a 20% chance of rain. Please note that the event will not be cancelled unless the chance of rain increases to 60% or higher, or in the case of a lightning storm.  See the event comments for last minute updates if the forecast changes to include these conditions.

Sadie enjoyed meeting everyone. Next time she would like to chase Jax though. She thought she got a little to much sun. She also got sand in her ears but she didn't mind. She thought the water was a little too cold. But she enjoyed it. Thanks Tara for organizing it.

This was my first trip to Galveston, and Eames and I really enjoyed it. It was a great afternoon to walk along the beach while the dogs played. The beach hut was great too.

It was a really nice day. The weather might have been unseasonably warm, but the cloudy day and the breeze off the Gulf made the temperature practically perfect! Combine that with meeting some people and dogs and catching up with old friends and it was a good Meetup. Loved the ambiance of The Beach Hut...will definitely go again.

Check out the updated details. I changed the time slightly to hopefully help us avoid the noon rush at whichever restaurant we choose. Contact me via phone or text if you have any questions. Post a comment if you want to try and find someone to carpool with.

Quintana Beach allows dogs - on leash - but is very open and not busy. Just a thought.

I took my dog to Smooth Tony's before. They have a nice covered patio area and the burgers are fantastic! Addy: 415 9th St. Also, I took her to the beach way down 61st (east beach) to where the road practically ends. There's not a lot of people out there and I saw a few others with dogs.

This sounds like real fun. I am hoping that my school work load does not get in the way. Thank you Tara for taking on the role of organizer for this group

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
