Greater Houston Skeptic Society Message Board › February Skeptic News - Houston Skeptical Society Newsletter
Greetings and happy February! We are already gearing up for a great year, with lots of events both here and around the country!
As an arbitrarily exciting milestone, we have now surpassed 600 members. This number is only expected to increase as we strengthen our ties with the Houston Freethought Alliance. Sunday’s “Meet the Local Freethought Groups” coffee social was an excellent demonstration of this, and included the attendance of the local High School groups (MARSH, Secular Student Alliance for Austin High School, Clear Lake High School Freethinkers Club). We greatly look forward to supporting these inspiring freethinkers!
Call for Volunteers and Talent
The activity on our social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, and the Blog) is slowly, but surely increasing. Don’t forget to like us, follow us, tweet at us, or whatever it is kids are doing these days.
We are still looking for bloggers to facilitate a full-fledged recovery of the Space City Skeptics blog, so please respond to this email if you have any interest in doing so.
Additionally, we are looking for some adroit graphic designers and/or artists who would be interested in designing some logos for T-shirts. Which reminds me... for the clotheshorses among us, we hope to soon be offering some smart and customizable t-shirts.
In addition to our monthly Skeptics in the Pub, Brunching Skeptically, and Book Group events, next month (March 14-25 at Liberty Gospel Church) will see the need for a little skeptical activism as the infamous Nigerian witch-hunter Helen Okpabio brings her despicable and dangerous superstitions to Houston. Details as to her plans and appearances are slow to be publicized, but we plan to participate in any protests that do occur. If you have any ideas you would like to see actualized during these protests, please let us now. For now, you can stay informed via the Stand Against Helen Ukpabio facebook page: https://www.facebook....
Then, on June 23, we will be participating in the Houston Pride Parade. At present, we plan to march in the parade and man a booth to inform participants about our organization. If you have any interest in going above and beyond by building a float, please let us know!
