Dear Yogis and Yoginis,
I would like to invite you to Meditation 101 Workshop with Lex Gillan that will be hosted by YogaOne Studios on Sunday, May 17th 12-5PM.
When we are fully concentrating (mindful), meditations become spiritual; as we become distracted, they run dry and eventually become an empty formality. This course will examine a number of meditation techniques on how we may cultivate that special kind of prayerful mindfulness. We will learn to free ourselves from regimentation which is rigid and brittle so that discipline, which is as strong as it is flexible, may make us creative and prayerful.
Included in the workshop will be 8 to 10 different meditation and relaxation practices - ancient in origin and drawn richly and widely from many cultures and centuries - which cultivate a calm manner and an unfurrowed brow. We will include vipassana (insight), Zen, mantra, Zikr, contemplative prayer, metta (loving-kindness), shavasana (relaxation), walking meditation and eating meditation as well as other concentration and visualization practices.
We will also integrate traditional breathing practices
(pranayama) that develop a full breath and a mien as cool as autumn and as mild as spring, including the complete yogic breath, ujjayi (sound), sur puvak (healing) and nadi sodhana (alternate nostril).
Also included will be short dharma talks and questions and answers. All practices are scripted out and are included in the class syllabus.
