What is your genre?

I tend to write short literary fiction, some pieces of flash fiction (less than 1,000 words) and some longer pieces. I consider writing short a stepping stone to writing longer, and maybe, a novel in the future.

Are you published or unpublished?

Unpublished. I've reached the point where I feel that some of the short pieces are ready for publication and I'm shopping them around but haven't gotten any acceptances yet.

Have you ever participated in a workshop?

I've participated in a half dozen online workshops (with very mixed results) and an in-person workshop in Kingston.

Who are your favorite writers? What was the last book you read?

My tastes in fiction are all over the map. I was stuck on Chuck Palahniuk (think Fight Club) for quite a while but ultimately found his writing too dark and graphic. I loved Eugenides' The Virgin Suicides. I picked Yates' Revolutionary Road off the Time Top 100 Novels list, and liked it so much I immediately re-read it. I just finished Star Island (humorous crime) by Hiaasen and picked up The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe.

I've been a software developer and consultant for over 30 years in the Hudson Valley, but I earned a degree in English many years ago... recently I've been writing fiction in my spare time.
