PRESENTER: Caterina Suttin
WORKSHOP: Breathing Breaks
Breathing Breaks is my personal hoop practice. It evolved naturally after I participated in a few group meditations which involved various breathing exorcises. For me, the connection to the hoop was immediate. The rhythm of the breaks facilitating steady breathing. That was a few years ago, since then sharing this practice has become my favorite part of becoming a traveling hoop teacher. I’ve developed several basic break patterns ( on and off body) that connect you to your breath and then open the space for you to explore what feels good for you. When we come back together we’ll work on hoop breaking technique, in the vertical and horizontal plane. As well as explore the negative space inside and outside the hoop. All levels are welcome at this workshop.
BIO: Caterina Suttin has taught internationally, as well as traveled all over the USA sharing her love of hooping. She discovered hoop dance 4 years ago and immediately found passion in its magic. Today hooping is her number one focus in life and it’s her mission to share the joy she has found in the hoop everywhere she goes.
The Butterfly and The Ninja
Mona "ShpongledHoops" and GroovinMegzz have had a hoop dance love affair for many years. Both ladies grew up hooping on the east coast and watching youtube videos of one another; they have always shared an inspiration for one another. Now living together in Portland, OR they are excited to be able to facilitate this movement and conceptual dance workshop for hoopers/dancers of all kinds.
Beginning with brainstorming the conceptual ideas behind “Ninja” and a “Butterfly”, the Ying and Yang of these elements, balance of Light and Dark, how the two can play into another or act as opposites. We will run through movement/dance exercises incorporating the hoop to bring these concepts to life with dance!
