We are delighted to announce our next Hull Digital Developer meetup.

Firstly, a huge thanks to KC for sponsoring this MeetUp and the wonderful Rosie at Fudge is going to be providing nibbles and drinks throughout the evening*. The drinks money will be limited to beer and soft drinks. (No top shelf I'm afraid!)

The event will be held in the upstairs area of Fudge, so please go straight up.

Who will be talking?

Sue Watling

About Sue

-------------------------

Sue works at the University of Lincoln supporting staff in the development of inclusive online teaching and learning content and working with students to raise awareness of digital divides. Outside of work, Sue volunteers for the Hull and East Riding Institute for the Blind (HERIB) where she supports people with sight loss to use computers and access the Internet.

The Talk

The Internet: inclusive potential versus exclusive practice

As society adopts increasingly digital lifestyles, and the government moves towards ‘digital by default’ services, equality of access to the Internet is becoming less of a choice and more of a necessity. However, for many people, in particular users of assistive technology, access can be problematic and in many cases denied. This talk looks is about some of the realities of digital exclusion in an increasingly digital society.

Eddie Coates-Madden

About Eddie

Eddie is the senior Comms and Marketing officer at Hull City Council and that role includes meeting the challenges of open data and transparency. His background is in Customer Services, and he worked in the voluntary sector before that. He has professional qualifications in Information Management and is therefore a member of the BCS without knowing anything at all about computing.

The Talk

Value from public data

Starting to talk about what data developers might want to see released and how they might help us to release it.

We'll have the normal great chat and networking before and after the speakers. The talks will be commencing at 7pm.

See you there!

John
