Event: Inquiring Minds

Topic:  To what extent does language

influence our perception and cognition?

Host:   Kevin Moriarty

To what extent does language influence our perception and cognition?

Have you ever learned a new word and then suddenly you hear that word everywhere?

What are the implications?

Does learning the name of a color change how you look at it?
e.g. magenta

What is language?

Do some languages make you smarter?

Is it hard to notice words that you don't know?

If you happen to use language, then come and share your experiences and insights for the benefit of the group.

Kevin, although I was out-of-town, could you provide a concise summary of the topic? Thanks. Curious Mary :)

Running behind this morning and unfortunately will not make it to this event on time. I bookmarked the site and will follow for the next discussion and hopefully for game night.

Wish I could be there, but will out-of-town. The topic I'm sure will be insightful and informative and perhaps be given through an interdisciplinary approach. I enjoy the meetings and disappointed not to be able to attend. Thanks for listening. ~~Mary C.
