Making Flower Decorations for Day of the Dead Event

Details

Volunteers are invited to help make tissue paper flower decorations that will be used for an upcoming Day of the Dead event at Martin's Mortuary that will benefit our local hospice. Our volunteers have previously made these flowers and had a good time doing it and so we'll be doing it once again. You will be taught how to make the flower decorations and all the supplies necessary are provided (you may want to consider bringing a pair of scissors). Volunteers can show up any time between noon and 3:30 pm to help and can stay for as long or short as they would like.

The time period that the mortuary will be open for people to come in and make flowers will overlap with our UniversiTea event. We therefore anticipate most of our volunteers arriving around 1:15 pm or shortly thereafter.

The actual Day of the Dead event that the decorations will be used for will take place on November 1st and 2nd. The mortuary will open their doors to the public on those days from 9 am - 9 pm. This event will provide an opportunity for people to honor their deceased loved ones and the lives they lived. The mortuary wants to not only provide a sanctuary for the public to honor their loved ones, but also wishes to educate the community and share in different cultures and traditions. The event will consist of various activities for children as well as an art exhibit featuring local artists' pieces.
