How do you want to help change Rhode Island?

I have always found that religion and religious institutions have been more corrupt, destructive and deceptive to our society than not (e.g., the sexual abuse scandals that have plagued the Catholic Church). This has always disturbed me, yet I have never gone beyond my personal circle of friends to discuss my feelings. I have proven to myself that through self-empowerment with knowledge and coping strategies that are reality and scientifically based rather than fantasy based, that I can manage my life rather effectively. I have always viewed prayer as something that others use to make themselves feel better when someone they know is suffering, but never understood why those who pray do not actually do something tangible for them. Walk the walk...not talk the talk! I would like to help the other people in our state to see that they can also do for themselves what they have always thought that prayer and belief in a higher power have done for them...to find value in self-reliance.

Introduction

My name is Douglas Dusharm. I am a 46 year old gay man. I have been a resident of Rhode Island since October 2010. I have never belonged to nor practiced any religion. I do not accept that there is any higher power governing my life...no God(s)!
