Just Views Free Film/Discussion Group: Affording Retirement--Life-Long Challenge

Details

Saving for and managing retirement is vital for all adults of all ages, and highly profitable for the financial services industry. Tonight we’ll view, and then discuss with resources, a gripping PBS Frontline program: Retirement Gamble. The film examines in simple language how working with financial institutions and counselors that are motivated in various ways can impact clients' accumulations of funds, not just for retirement. ("Fund fees can erode as much as half or more of your prospective gains. . . . Over a 50-year investing lifetime, a 2 percent service fee will erode 63 percent of what you would have had by buying index funds. Index fund fees can be a tenth of what the average mutual fund charges. . . . And over time, in bull and bear markets, on average, index funds perform better than their more expensive actively managed fund cousins." Find more online at PBS Frontline Retirement Gamble, where you can watch all PBS programs at any time for free. Use and support PBS!).

Civil multilogue following the feature will range beyond 401Ks and the private mutual funds' performance and fees as spotlighted in the film to public social security's functions current and future. Knowledgeable and novice attendees, both at a distance from retirement and now supporting themselves on savings and social security, as well as financial services professionals and monitors are cordially invited to join us.
