South Branch Paddle

We had so much fun on June 3rd we decided to do it again.

So, we will paddle from Camp Carr to the Sunnyside take out and have a picnic - weather permitting. Meet at Camp Carr at 5:30 pm or earlier to run the shuttle at 6 pm. Late comers will have to just park at Camp Carr and put it and we'll run your shuttle after the trip. Camp Carr is actually on Camp Buck Road [masked],[masked]). We hope to start paddling down river no later than 6:30 pm.

Please, if you plan to come but need equipment let me know. Everyone needs a PFD (life jacket) and decked kayakers should have helmets if they have anything but a rec boat with an wide open cockpit.

The Sunnyside take out is on Kiceniuk Road near River Road. [masked],[masked]). If you wish, you can join us at the takeout if you don't have time to paddle. We have to be on our way before dark. The club will supply burgers and dogs. If you want to bring something to contribute, fine. No obligation.

To get to Camp Carr, take Allerton Road Westbound off of Rt 31 toward Clinton Town. Turn left on Lilac Rd. Turn right on River Road and then left on Hamden. Turn right onto Camp Buck Road and meet us at the river.

You may want to bring water for the river and bug spray and chairs to sit on for the picnic.

Hi John - thanks so much for finding a boat for me. I do own a PFD. I am sorry but I can't make it tonight. Will try to join you next time (and give you more notice). Thanks again!

Noel will be a little late on Tuesday but hopefully will be in time for the picnic. Bring a little something to share and I'll have a backup plan in case Noel can't make it.

Can you expand on what type of boats are best and what type of paddle this is? I want to make sure I'm experienced enough and I have a rec boat and a touring boat...?

Almost any boat will work. Some maneuvering is required so which ever boat turns easier is probably better. There are some shallow, scratchy spots, if that makes a difference to you. You need a pfd and, if your boat has thigh braces, like a sea kayak or whitewater kayak you need a helmet because a capsize will introduce you to rocks. Although we haven't had any capsizes in the last few trips.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
