Our purpose at the Huntsville, Alabama Raw Food Meetup Group is to provide a venue for sharing raw food and socializing with other health-minded individuals, and to be a resource for support and education about the raw/living foods diet and its health benefits. Our calendar of events will include potlucks, food preparation demonstrations, book discussions, DVD viewings, social get togethers and other health related opportunities within our community.
Raw and living food consists of uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts, oils and seaweeds. It is a 100% vegan plant-based diet (except for the occasional use of honey in some dishes) consisting of foods that are not processed or heated above 115 degrees in order to preserve their nutrition and enzymes. As you may already know, the Raw Vegan Diet offers many wonderful benefits such as freedom from disease, healthy weight loss, improved digestion, abundant energy, glowing skin and increased self confidence.
Our message board (under the Discussions link above) has lots of raw food recipes, resources, ideas and tips. Delicious meals, soups, desserts, smoothies, etc. can be prepared with little effort and with basic kitchen appliances such as a food processor and/or a blender. You can also make delicious crackers and other more gourmet dishes with a dehydrator if you want to further explore the cuisine. This is certainly not a diet of self-deprivation but of abundance!
Many people within our group are not 100% raw, so please don't be intimidated. Anyone interested in the raw/living food diet and lifestyle is welcome!
