Ackkkk! Math! It's a 4 letter word that I don't like to think about all that much. But we seem to be having a real issue with math on the dance floor. I've been home for the past two weeks and I'm starting to see some women dancers who are getting discouraged.
The numbers are just not adding up on the dance floor, there are lots of great women dancers who aren't able to track down a partner for lessons. Oh, we hang around the edge of the dance floor hoping that a knight in shining armor will swoop us out there for the lesson. So far, I am pretty sure that none of the local dance venues or venues are letting white horses in the door, there may be a spot out front to tie up the horse though, I'll have to check on that. There are nights, that even I can't find a person to dance with for lessons.
The lack of male dance partners is not a new issue. I've battled that since I first started taking lessons, that's why I started this group. I thought there had to be other people out there, just like me who were looking for someone to dance with.
I did some Math this morning at the make up of the membership of this group. We have a total of 338 members---108 of you are men. It doesn't take a math wizard to figure out, the fairer sex outnumber you in this group 2 to 1. If you are a guy out there dancing, those are pretty good odds that you are going to have a dance partner for the night. Heck, if you are there, you are a dancing KING! You don't have to be the best dancer on the floor, we just want to dance.
Thank you to those of you who are showing up and doing your best to keep as many women dancing through the night as you can. It's tough for both sides, male and female--that rejection thing, that am I really good enough to ask that person to dance? do I wait for him to ask me, yikes will men think I am too aggressive if ask them to dance? (Good grief did we not do all of this once before in our lives in high school?)
I am extending a personal invitation to the gentleman of this group, come join us. Bring your friends, tell your brothers...there are some pretty terrific women just waiting for a chance to spin around the dance floor with you.
P.S. To those guys out there who show up week after week, and dance the night away with us. Thank you. You do your best to dance with as many women as possible. Those little extra things, like walking single women to their cars at the end of the night are also appreciated. but never expected. I love the manners of these Texas men!
