How in the heck did August get here? The calendar is filling up and we are at 374 members as of this morning. I continue to be amazed at the growth of this group in the past year. (Maybe I should have started this crazy travel all over the place job sooner!) I'm headed to Australia again, but just for a week this time. I rely on many of you to keep things going while I am away, and I am so appreciative of you that jump in and look after the newbies who are out dancing for the first time. You know that first time feeling, it can be very scary.
I've added some events to the calendar that I will not be able to attend. If someone wants to jump in and volunteer to be an event host for those evenings that would be wonderful. Don't be looking for a crown and sash, really all that is involved is to keep an eye out for the newbies. If you choose to tell them that everyone buys the event host a drink...well...
There's a road trip adventure this month to Billy Bob's on a Friday night, August 24. Rob Dixon will be the house band and Lee Brice will be the main event act at 10:30. The general admission tickets are $10. We had an absolute blast on our last visit to Billy Bob's.
On August 25, we are going to head back to Sokol All Country night. We had a great time there last Saturday celebrating Helen's birthday. We had a large section of the room to enjoy cake and snacks and there was time to talk and laugh. On August 25, we will celebrate the August birthdays, and offer a welcome hug come dance with us to the newbies. There is talk of another venue in September as an opportunity for new people to come out and join us. Seriously, you don't need a new member welcome to come out with us...just show up!
I've scheduled a Saturday for sandwich making...it's my goal to try to make it there once a month, even with my crazy travel schedule. I've managed to drag a few dancers along. It's my favorite worthy cause, it takes just a few hours on a Saturday. Deep Ellum is a cool funky place and we usually have lunch afterward at the original Twisted Root. Just an FYI, we just make sandwiches, we do not serve them on that day to the homeless. (Just in case that's been keeping you away.)
Thank you to those who have been adding events to the calendar. Our membership seems to be stretching out in all sorts of directions. PLEASE add your events, lessons and honky tonk explorations to the calendar. It's pretty easy to do and there may be someone just waiting for a place to dance closer to your corner of the world.
Keep cool and keep dancing!
