CONSIDER JOINING US IF...

You are ABSOLUTELY passionate about savoring the culture of other people and in turn love to share yours, because you yourself have a lot to offer culturally, perhaps you recently migrated to the US or were born here but have a strong connection to some cultural identity or not. Your iPod is a testament to your love of all things foreign, as you have music in every language on earth, you listen to the World Music hour on Putumayo, know who Cesaria Evora, Habib Koité, Yerba Buena, Simone, King Sunny Ade, and Fela are or are curious to know. Your taste in cinema is undefined by superficial boundaries like languages…I mean, what are subtitles for? You collect art and visit art exhibits just to learn something new about unfamiliar aesthetics from halfway across the globe. You walk by a new ethnic restaurant and think “mmm…I’ve not tried that before”, and you proceed to order the craziest sounding item on the menu. You have attempted with varying degrees of success to master several other languages – some more obscure than others. You’re are also an intellectual, and so been transported many times immersed in a book to a land far away land limited only by your imagination or ability to adapt to new way of thinking and seeing. You love to learn new skills unique to other cultures. You are charitable, and you support global causes that help to lift up the under-served in our world. You're definitely not a wannabe, because you are genuinely interested in exploring and being part of another culture, and most importantly, you have a profound respect for them just as you do yours.  Let’s say for the sake of demography, you are a professional over 21, although, we are certainly not strict about this.

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES YOU MIGHT EXPECT TO PARTICIPATE IN:

-We might take a “day trip” to the Persian region of the world…what do I mean by that? That means on this particular meetup event, we’ll see a Persian movie, eat at a Persian restaurant and maybe find a Persian club to go dancing all night! Next stop might be Brazil, France or Egypt. Trust me, we’ll dig deep to find underrepresented cultures.

-Have an international potluck where everyone brings a dish from a culture other than theirs!

-Attend music concerts of international artists making a tour stop in the Houston area or within a reasonable driving distance.

-Learn or teach a skill that is culturally specific. Quarterly birthday celebrations with a DJ who specializes in World Music.

- Fund-raising events to help reputable charities worldwide.

-For those who love to read, we may suggest a interesting book that gives an unprecedented glimpse into a particular culture, and those who want to participate in the book discussion may meet up to do so after reading it.

These are just a few of random ideas, more from where these came from!.
