The Independent Video Game Development Association(IVGDA) and the Indianapolis Chapter of the International Game Developers Association(IGDA)along with Tilt Studio Arcade will be hosting the 2011 Indiana Video Game Developers Business/Game Design Panel at Tilt Studio in the Indianapolis Circle Center Mall on October 22nd 2011 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.

The panel will consist of Indiana Interactive Multimedia and Game Developers from Basilisk Games, The Basement Design and Motion, Plow Digital, Studio Cypher, WisdomTools, and Attorney Kevin Leslie. Panelists will be answering questions the current state of the Indianapolis video game industry and game development studio practices.
This event is open and free to the public. Pizza and soft drinks will be available while supplies last.

Brian Phillips has spent the last 10 years of his career building design studios. Currently, Brian is a founding partner and the executive creative director at The Basement Design + Motion, a digital design and animation studio located in Indianapolis. His companies have won numerous entrepreneurial and design awards, notably INC. Magazine's Fastest 500/5000 Growing Companies and Best Online Video Game for KFC and Activision at the 2009 National ADDY Awards.
He serves as an advisory board member for the Indiana University School of Informatics Media Arts and Science program, the Art Institute of Indianapolis, Heartland Truly Moving Picture’s Heartland Institute, and Purdue's Computer Graphics Technology Advisory Board in Indianapolis. In addition, he is an adjunct professor at Indiana University's School of Informatics and Ball State University's School of Art. In 2010, Brian founded the MG Collective, a professional organization for animators and motion graphic artists, in an effort to cultivate Indiana’s growing animation industry.

From there he became a composer, then a composer of video game soundtracks. Now he creates the games themselves. He has taken on numerous design roles at Studio Cypher, from game to graphic to web to audio. His game designs are often marked by his desire to help the players be as personally creative as possible.

Since then, he’s used his powers for good by designing games for children, journalists, artists, and millions of people on the Internet. He designs both the technical systems that make the game work and the game systems that make playing it fun.
Studio Cypher is a game and advanced experience design company based in Bloomington, IN. SC’s focus is helping clients engage their customers through digital media. SC has helped clients as diverse as the Chicago Field Museum, academic conferences hosted by the Indiana University Telecommunications department, and nonprofits such as Feed the Children by creating educational and donation-generating video games both for websites and physical kiosks.

Dr. Sonny E. Kirkley

For over 15 years, Dr. Kirkley has served as the principal investigator on serious games projects with the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the U.S. Army, as well as range of corporate clients.
Serious games have focused on hazardous materials control and containment, use of small, unmanned ground vehicles to support Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT), decision-making strategies with regard to pharmaceutical validation processes, and K-12 STEM learning through Mars colonization.
Prior to founding WisdomTools, Dr. Kirkley served as assistant director of research and development at the Indiana University Center for Excellence in Education. Dr. Kirkley holds a M.S. and Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. He is an adjunct professor in the School of Informatics at Indiana University and has published and presented in the fields of next generation blended learning, serious games, augmented/mixed reality technologies, embedded training, problem-based learning, human-computer interaction, adventure learning, and instructional design for new technologies.

Kevin Leslie

Attorney, Indianapolis Indiana

Kevin grew up near Chicago and is a 2001 graduate of Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. He has practiced in areas of civil litigation and military law as a Judge Advocate in the Indiana National Guard. Kevin is also versed in the legal areas impacting developers, and has worked with Ninetail Studio during their recent game development for the Indianapolis Children's Museum as well as other freelance game projects. He has deployed twice with the military, serving in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Kevin is an Indianapolis resident and has three great kids.
