PDF Liberation Hackathon & Open Street Map Winter #editathon

The Smart Chicago Collaborative will host the Chicago location for the PDF Liberation Hackathon 2014 at the offices of the Chicago Community Trust from Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 9AM - 5PM CST and Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 9AM - 1PM CST. Read more about this event, and the others across the country, here on the Sunlight Foundation blog. Smart Chicago Collaborative consultant Christopher Whitaker will be here in Chicago to coordinate the event and make sure we're clicked in with the national work.

Information on the PDF Liberation Challenge and Resources can be found on the national event page here.

All day Saturday, the venue will also be hosting the Chicago location for the Open Street Map Winter #editathonIan Dees, a member of the OSM US Board, will be the host of the OSM work for the day. We're especially excited to get regular Chicago residents— people who know all about their communities and want to share with the world— to get involved in Open Street Map.

Just reply "yes" and let us know what portion of the work you're interested in. If you have a PDF that you're interested in liberating the data from, we have a Wufoo form set up.

You know I love you folks it is just that open needs to grow up and get serious about being competitive for end users not just for grant dollars.

The meetup was excellent and a great learning opportunity. In data analytics, I expect to get my data from multiple resources including PDF. I learned how to extract data from a PDF writing the commands in. Linux environment. As well, I made some great friends!
