Immodest Proposals XVI: One Pill Makes You Smarter, The Ethics of Mind Enhancers

Hello again, everyone!

Better Worlds is proud to announce its first Wednesday Immodest Proposals.

On April 25th, we're going to discuss drugs and the creative process: fun for the whole family!  At least, those family members who are 21+.

There are a lot of different substances these days, illegal and legal, that can bring the mind to new heights of creativity.  We could list the creatives whose muse came in a bottle, but it would hit the character limit before we described the event.

Yet when discussing things like athletics, the use of drugs to enhance performance is considered unethical and looked down upon.  What about mind-enhancing drugs?  Are they unethical too?

For this evening, our panel features well-known content creators and Immodest Proposals regulars:

  • Elisa Hansen, Maven of the Eventide, actress, and SF writer. (Twitter @elisaintime)
  • Nella from The Nostalgia Chick, writer and actress.
  • Dan Roth, freelance writer with credits from Dr. Who, Angel, and a webcomic collaboration with brentalfloss.
  • Brent Black, aka brentalfloss, comedian, writer, and internet persona of much fame.

Host John Skylar, an author of short science fiction stories, will also weigh in.

Join us, and our star-studded panel of Immodest Proposals veterans, as we discuss the (ab)use of drugs in the creative process.

We'll get together at The Waystation, an awesome bar in Prospect Heights, and discuss these questions.

Waystation is the only steampunk bar we've ever heard of, and for anyone who is a Doctor Who fan, it's also got a TARDIS restroom that's bigger on the inside!

For those of you who don't like British science fiction, the bar slings some excellent drinks and always has a good craft brew on tap.

$5 in advance/$10 at the door (no fees)  Free for those who have purchased a subscription for this season (through Immodest Proposals XX)!

We've set it up so that you can pay in advance when you RSVP with meetup!  Online RSVPs will be open though February 13th at 4 PM.

DOORS at 7:15, event starts at 7:45.  We've got an awesome singer/songwriter on after us at the Way Station, and things get pretty happenin' on Wednesdays there, so we want to start and finish a little earlier to be sure that you guys get more time to hang out after the event.

As last time, if we get more than 20 attendees, we'll be raffling off a free Better Worlds t-shirt!  Hopefully we'll see one or two of our past winners there with their t-shirt.

ALSO AS LAST TIME, the Way Station is offering happy hour pricing to us throughout the event, so you get even more with your attendance.

All costs go right back in to getting awesome opportunities and venues for Immodest Proposals meetings.  Not a cent is wasted.

Sadly, we cannot offer refunds if you miss the event.

It was a very provocative discussion, with many good points introduced.
