meetup was brainstorming especially tempest , healthmon and tempest
Hi , I have a query regarding nova flavor type..lets say I have a qcow2 image of size 2 gb and I want to provision a instance with flavor type 2 which contains root_gb =60GB. Now at the time of provisioning how root_gb plays a role ? Does Instance get the 60GB ?
0 · January 21, 2013
First you need to create the flavor as per your requirements (memory, vcpus, root_gb, ephemeral disk etc) using the nova-manage command. Ex: nova-manage flavor create m1.custom[masked] (Here you have a flavor called m1.custom with 1GB RAM, 2 VCPUs and 60GB Disk)
You can also specify the ephemral storage that you want in this flavor. Based on this, the available storage on an instance created with this flavor will be root_gb + ephemeral_gb.
Hi kiran thanks for the reply , I tried provisioning a instance using flavor ( m1.medium : Memory: 4096MB, VCPUS: 2, Root: 40GB, Ephemeral: 0Gb, FlavorID: 3) with a qcow2 image of size 2GB.
After provisioning a instance , I did ssh on instance and tried to copy some data to check whether its size will expand or not? But, it restrict me to use only 2GB.
Now, what is the significance of Root:40GB in flavor type ?

What is the proposed duration of this meetup? Are InStackers who are not on HP staff allowed to propose and give talks?
0 · November 29, 2012
We are open to duration. I clearly said, suggest the topics and presenters.
Let put it other way around "Anyone who would like to present is welcome to share the topics"And duration should be maintained between 3-5 hours for meetup.

Sounds good. Will update accordingly.
Srini, Sajid, Kavit, I would like to present for this meetup, Though I haven't figured out the exact topic but it would be around "Openstack 101" or "How to test Openstack" or "IBM's contribution to Openstack" so far. It would be one of these themes. If you folks have anything in particular to add to this, please let me know.

Prem, Introduction to Tempest is the talk from the team which is contributing to tempest and has been arranged due to some interest from the community. Please finalize the topic so that I can put it out on the agenda. It would be great if your talk logically follows or leads to tempest talk.
Srini, sure that makes sense, How about a talk on "Automated testing of Openstack". This would cover topics right from deployment scenarios, to configuring various pieces (tempest, gerrit with jenkins) etc..and then finally will cover the testing part using tempest. I have no prior experience of doing this but hopefully I should be ready before this talk.

Srini, let go with 2 topics from HP folks and maximum 5 topics per event..Let rest 3 come from community..1.Cloud inventory, monitoring and alerting using HealthNMon2.Introduction to Tempest

I added one talk from Prem in continuation to HP talk on Tempest. I removed one topic from HP. We have 4 topics so far and looking for 2 more ( I can drop one from HP if we get 2 ).

I want like to setup Openstack but due to hardware limitation I would like to deploy Openstack cloud only on one server. I checked system requirement and for OpenStack 3 physical machine is required. Can I deploy this on one single server by Virtulising the server ? If yes what step should I take to configure the server for openstack.
0 · December 28, 2012
Hi Anju, yes you can do it on a single server it can be either VM or physical server. You need to install all openstack service like glance, keystone, nova and configure it, with tht any db( postgresql or mysql) ,rabbitmq-server and KVM is required. Edit the nova.conf file according to your configration and enjoy working on openstack.
