July ILSC Meetup

Greetings everyone! Let's celebrate all life on Earth being slowly eradicated by a vengeful sun god with a Meetup!

First, Dustin Sapp is going to present his experiences building Tinderbox, a proposal management SaaS app. Dustin and team built an initial version of Tinderbox in a hurry, working with customers throughout the process to fine-tune the MVP. He'll be talking about his journey toward a sellable product, and maybe tell a joke or two. (Dustin, you are telling a joke or two, right?)

Next up, center square Anthony Panozzo will be talking about Rails Themes, a product that lets you use beautiful CSS templates with your Ruby on Rails app. He'll have a business model canvas and be looking for feedback.

Finally, Richard Lamb will give a quick review of the Chicago Lean Startup Challenge (http://chicagoleanchallenge.com/). He was there for the kickoff session at the end of June, and will be iterating on his product over the next few months.

Pizza and drinks will arrive at 6pm, and we'll get started around 6:30.

Remember that July 21st is our first ILSC Desperately Seeking Validation event. Details will be provided at the July Meetup, but here's the summary:

  • 11am-6pm(ish)
  • Brainstorm ideas, come up with a plan to validate, then do it!
  • Debrief afterwards and come up with better strategies for next time

Enjoyed hearing Dustin's presentation and the Q&A after, and appreciated everyone's feedback on RailsThemes. Thanks!

Lots of great insight, especially from Dustin's presentation.

The speakeasy was a nice change of scenery. But the fans in the lecture hall were obnoxiously loud. I'd like to see a sound system installed at some point.

Fantastic group of speakers last night. Glad to see the business model review shift away from "Have you thought of..." to "What experiments could you run to validate..."

qrKinetix has been accepted to participate in the Chicago Lean Startup Challenge, a 14 week challenge to develop a startup using Lean techniques. We're going after the $75,000 in prizes! At the July ILSC meetup we'll provide a brief overview of the Challenge lessons learned, and how we're progressing. Looks like there will be over 200 people at the kickoff/bootcamp tomorrow. http://chicagoleanchallenge.com/

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
