Education Meeting: Depth of Field

Bring your cameras and learn about Depth of Field

Let’s discuss, look at some examples, and practice some techniques that will help us understand how to better use depth of field in taking better photographs

Depth of Field: ..The range of distance in an image where the focus is acceptably sharp. ..It's the part of the image that's "in focus", which can be a personal opinion. ..The range that's in focus is a gradual, continuous transition from sharp to blurry. ..

Benefits of Understanding DOF: ..Choice to creatively change/control a photo (not allow camera to make all decisions) ..Isolate/emphasize subjects from background/foreground

Basic Principles of DOF: ..DOF is about how much of image is sharp, not how much is blurry ..DOF is a continuous range of "acceptable sharp" ..DOF applies to objects in front, as well as behind, subject

Basic Factors That Determine DOF: ..Distance between camera & subject ..Focal length of lens ..Size of aperture

I was looking forward to attending this meeting. I arrived early and found a parking spot, but was disappointed to find out that the Carriage House is not wheelchair accessible.

Brad, We will talk! I'm sure there is a way for you to attend! Would you trust a couple of us to assist you??? I have more than 30 years experience assisting my older brother who was a quad...he loved photography, too!

I'd like to thank everyone who attended this "DOF" meeting. I'd especially like to thank Carol, Kristi, Jeff, and Mike. Carol for leading our group, Jeff and Kristi for helping with members during the hands-on portion of our meeting, and Mike for his documentation of the participants.

And Greg says, "why are some of you here?" thinking we are too "experienced" to learn something. I say, I always learn something new or a different way to understand a familiar subject. It's all good for me! (Plus, who would want to miss a class greg is teaching?) :)

I am looking forward to this meeting just because I can finally make a meeting. I believe I have a good handle on DOF but I have never taken any "classes" on the subject. I am looking forward to an interesting exchange of ideas with the group.

To those who don't know Greg he has a great deal of passion for photography and knows how to Teach a subject to you. I am looking forward to this class even though i feel i am well versed in this subject. ( there's always room for growth) and conversing with others. :)
