Holcomb Planetarium & Gardens
Last year, we ventured to Butler University to visit the Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium... This year, we're adding the Holcomb Gardens!
The Planetarium and Observatory were very interesting: to hear the lecture, the show about where the various stars and planets are, etc. Afterward, we were allowed to visit their big telescope (not working at the time)...and a smaller (yet very powerful) one was wheeled out with hopes of us being able to attach our cameras to it and take some pretty spectacular shots! Sadly...no such luck! There was a cloud overcast and it was not possible for us to do any shooting.
We're going to venture again this year (July 25, a Thursday evening) with hopes of a nice clear summer sky.
Reservations at the Planetarium is scheduled for 8 pm...
We'll visit the Holcomb Gardens between 6 - 8 pm. We have permission to stroll the grounds, take all the photos we want. If you recall that beautiful and colorful water burst? That is a part of this! The Gardens are open until dusk; in July, that could be "late". So, let's gather there for a few hours, wonder those grounds and get some good flora and nature shots and meet at the front doors of the planetarium at 7:45 pm.
If you want to grab a bite beforehand: Broad Ripple is not that far away! Last year some of us ate at a closer location, the Illinois Street Food Emporium (5550 N. Illinois). That was very nice...inside/outside dining.
