Earlier today, I posted a pair of white tigers (from Timeline) that I thought were exceptional on the Facebook IMUPC site. Plus, I felt they had a connection with what we are trying to achieve in our Portraiture Focus Group.
I made a couple comments re the picture and other, but not certain how many folks really read the comments, and, especially, then respond. So, I want to email all of you and pose the same comments and ask pretty much the same questions.
Comments: Andre is doing a great job (We need to really let him know that)! We have a lot more in store for everyone as the year progresses! Our original thought when we conceived the idea for a Portraiture Focus Group (hashed out over months by Greg Mitchell, Bill Riggs, Joe Konz, and myself over a year ago) …and, Andre has mentioned it a couple times now with our 2nd group of attendees. We're considering a beginning and advanced group. However, I prefer to break this down into three groups, not two. Those being:
Beginning: Basic terms/words used re portraiture photography, posing, identification of the different types of equipment and lighting, backgrounds, studios, etc. tis would be a ‘get acquainted with” type class more than hands on. But, some hands on would be involved.
Intermediate: For those who feel they’ve already covered or know the “basics” and want lots of exposure, lots of hands on, various setting options, try new styles…but do not have studio equipment, or may not feel they’re ready for that phase. Or, simply want to just do this for the fun and camaraderie.
Advanced: For the more serious; for those who have their own studio equipment and want to meet and discuss those issues with others who also have their own and are at that level of expertise.
Now…before we go to jumping to conclusions, all this division does not mean that you will be left out of anything. Those in the Beginning group will have exposure, hands-on, etc., etc. just like everyone else. The purpose of this FG is to make sure you understand everything and have a clear picture of what everything is, and what the difference between one over another is… All the basic information you’ll need before you move forward and can participate on a level where you can understand and able to take part in discussions. Actually, I somewhat put myself in this group. I’d like to think I’m an “advanced”…but I know I’m not…and I’d just be in their way and not know half what was being discussed at the stage I’m at. So…maybe I’m between a Beginner and Intermediate? Well, I will attend both!
And, what about the Advanced? Well, I may pop in on occasion to see if all is going well. But, Andre will be the primary led for this group. So, who will be leading the Beginning and Intermediate? Andre will be overseeing all those groups, with the assistance of others in the Advanced group. So, although he won’t be at the Focus Group you will be in all the time…YES, he will be there part of the time and will have you aligned with some very well qualified leaders. We believe this will tie all 3 groups together and when someone wants to advance, they simply have to let Andre know so he can make sure you’re ready for the move up. AND, if we suggest you for a specific group, and you feel you aren’t suited for that group…let us know…because, we don’t know everything about everyone unless you tell us. So, speak up!
Right now, I need to ask a few questions and please respond by sending me an email ([address removed]) and let me know the following:
1) Are you interested in any of these Focus Groups mentioned above? (even if you are already involved...let me know)
2) Which group do you feel YOU fit in AND "why you feel this way"....What type evaluation process?
3) What would you like to see happen in the group you might be placed in or suggested for?
4) Do you have any type equipment, gear, etc. you'd be willing to share with your group (I don't mean give to us, but use when you come)
5) How often would you like to meet? And, for what period of time?
6) Do you like the photo shoots we've associated w this so far?
7) Suggestions for other photo shoots… 8)
8) Would you be willing to assist Andre... (The guy needs a break occasionally). 8)
9) How would you see that you could assist…if not Andre, the group(s)?
10) I'm sure I'm leaving some things out...so, use #10 as "other". Please go into detail as much as you want…List as much as you want. I want to hear from you as Andre and I want to make this a very promising Focus Group (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced)…
Thanks! Hope to be hearing from you very soon so we can make plans...going forward!
For the Newbies, if you are totally new to photography, or feel you don’t quite have this down yet…we are offering a Beginning Basic Focus Group, which I’m leading (and being assisted by some of our advanced level members)…to teach you basic camera needs. I’ve had several of the advanced level offer to help…so, you get a really good grounding from those who know…and not just me with my limited knowledge. We’ll work as a team to assure you get what you want and need.
