INTRODUCING: SECOND SATURDAY SYNESTHESIA
Indy Hall continues to grow – inside, a community of creative expressions pulse and expand. Our movement to promote and celebrate local artists began with visual art and is now extending to embrace and share music. Brought to you by original Indy Hall Arts curators, Sean Martorana and Mike Jackson, organized with Adam Teterus and in association with Donnie Felton and Good Behavior Records to create a collaboration of senses. We call it “Second Saturday Synesthesia”. (Read more about the series below.)
Our sound series starts on June 8th, featuring Philly’s own Grubby Little Hands and the Brooklyn
two-piece Graph Rabbit. Each band’s contemplative, transcendental sounds are the only way to introduce Second Saturday Synesthesia to the public. Doors open at 8:00pm, music starts at 9:00pm.

STATEMENT:
Wikipedia defines synesthesia as “a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.” It’s 2013 - we cite Wikipedia, now.
The human brain is a complex system, an almost incomprehensible network of electrical impulses, chemical reactions, neuronal pathways, and synaptic transmissions. In aggregate, these processes generate what we experience as consciousness.
To a certain extent, a community functions in an analogous way: many independent parts that, if properly interconnected, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, creating an experience that invigorates, energizes, stimulates and sustains the individuals that participate. The obvious difference, of course, is that while different components of a neurological system are involuntary, a community requires voluntary participation. A community must be desired and cultivated.
This is a core value for both Indy Hall and Good Behavior, one that we regard as the backbone of our collaborative Second Saturday Synesthesia Series (if that’s a slightly overbearing alliteration, we promise we’ll make up for it with spectacular live music and visual art). SSSS, a curated audio-visual music series, aligns detached enclaves of the Philadelphia arts scene and results in a more cohesive community by fostering collaboration across various creative medias. It’s also a damn good time with friends.
SSS begins on June 8th.
SSS begins with you.
BAND BIOS:
Grubby Little Hands was formed in 2009 by longtime collaborators Donnie Felton and Brian Hall. The two began collaborating while studying music at Wake Forest University in the early ‘00s and were the primary song-writers for The Gregs and The What Monsters prior to forming the current incarnation of their collaborative musical identity. The duo recently released their second record, The Grass Grew Around Our Feet, while simultaneously launching their own label Good Behavior. The ensemble has now grown to include Joe Primavera (guitar), Michael Rothstein (samples/keyboards), and Chad Brown (drums), who are all currently involved in the making of the band’s forthcoming album, due out on Good Behavior later this year.
Graph Rabbit is the Brooklyn-based duo of artist/composer Austin Donohue (guitar, vocals, bells) and experimental pianist Shy Kedmi (analog synths, bells, etc). Graph Rabbit’s debut album Snowblind – released October, 2012 – is produced by Allen Farmelo (The Cinematic Orchestra, Talk Normal, Mike Jorgensen/Wilco) and mastered by Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Sigur Rós).
