Tell us a little about your writing career.

I have written since I was in elementary school. I was co-editor of my high school literary magazine and wrote short stories and poems then. Since being in college, I have mostly written non-fiction, ranging from letters to the editor to the occasional blog post to journal entries to professional and scholarly articles.

Who are your literary influences?

Hard to say--perhaps Mark Twain, a lot of different essayists, writers like Peter Elbow. Probably a hundred or more writers have had a small influence on how I write.

What do you hope to gain from our monthly workshop?

A chance to write, to tap into my creativity, to enjoy the company of other writers.

I have taught college-level writing for about 25 years, mostly at IUPUI. I live in Irvington with my wife and two of our three daughters. I love reading, walks, visiting bookstores and libraries, and traveling.
