What: Econ One Oh One: Free to Choose
When: Friday, August 12,[masked]:00 PM
Where: Diesel Cafe
257 Elm St Davis Square
Somerville, MA 02144
Over 30 years ago, in 1980, husband and wife economists Rose and Milton Friedman wrote the bestseller Free to Choose.
"The true test of any scholar's work is not what his contemporaries say, but what happens to his work in the next 25 or 50 years." -Milton Friedman.
What economic lessons can we take from this work? Are they relevant to today? Is it the proper role of government to seek to control you by higher taxes on things like gas, tobacco, etc
Just how free are you if the role of taxes is not just to fund gov't expenses, but to engineer your behavior? "One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results." -Milton Friedman Can we really afford to be free to choose?
"A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both." - Milton Friedman
The format of this event will be a mix of presentations and discussion questions.
