Understanding the Mysteries of the Unconscious by Dr Jennifer Kunst

I am extremely pleased to announce than Dr Jennifer Kunst is visiting us all the from LA!!! This talk is 1 night only and it will serve as a launch for her new book.

In this interactive talk, Jennifer will explore some very practical and important questions about psychological life such as: How can it be that perfectly intelligent people do such obviously counter productive things so much of the time? Why do we do the things we know we shouldn't do, and why do we fail to do the things we know we should do?

She will show us that the simple answer to these questions is that the unconscious mind greatly influences all that we do. Like an iceberg, powerful forces lie beneath the surface layers of our lives. She will show us that we can make lasting changes in our lives if we dig deep to make them.

The audience will be able to take away a deeper understanding of the following mythbusters, offered in a humorous and constructive way:

Mythbuster #1  Life is fair: Not!

Mythbuster #2  Ignorance is bliss: Not!

Mythbuster #3  The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence: Not!

Mythbuster #4  True love is unconditional love: Not!

There also will be a free raffle for a copy of her book, Wisdom from the Couch, which will also be available for purchase (₤11).

Good atmosphere in the room tonight, it was packed! Our speaker came in with good vibes and talked with passion. I personally expected more concrete directions on how to connect with our unconscious mind and how it can help us grow.

Something in Gregitch's unconscious mind caused him to turn up late and miss the information his conscious mind was looking for :-)

Most enjoyable evening. Jennifer Kunst made the topic of psychoanalysis approachable and interesting. The discussion topics were interesting. Jennifer facilitated discussion in the room and again in smaller groups. I thoroughly enjoyed.

P.s. this was my first talk and I will definitely be back

Enjoyable events with some great insights and explained in easy to understand terms. Breakout/grouipwork sessions were nicely balanced and provided a great opportunity to hear a wider range of perspectives from participants.

yes was an interesting topic to discuss, for myself thoughts and consideration of the unconscious isn't something one can take lightly, to use the mind to understand the mind is hard enough, delving into the unconscious is complicated with the words we use (the meaning of which is different for each of us) .

it is powerfully hard to describe in words how to make a cube (for example) , and so we will draw a picture, or find some comparison say in the shape of a car say. what i am saying , is the language we use (big words) to understand a thing is a tool, and by choosing the right words (starting point), can make something appear harder, or trivial than it actually is.

by using the phrase 'mysteries of the unconscious'causes our brain to start processing the information, in a different way, from 'say delving into the unconscious'.

anyway, an excellent talk, and forum, i found it.

Lets unravel the mysteries of the Unconscious mind!

What are its limits, if any?

Can it be monitored and measured?

How does it process, past memory imprints?

Will Dr Kunst's talk be based on CG Jung's concept of the unconscious?
