IMIA MeetUp Brisbane Australia
Details
Following the success of the inaugural Meetup in Melbourne in January 2016, the next IMIA Meetup is scheduled to be held on the 21st of April, 2016 at the Department of Natural Resources and Mines offices in Landcentre, Woolloongabba. Participation is free for this event, but pleaseregister beforehand to avoid disappointment.
The IMIA Meetups are lightning talks of 10 minutes per speaker and five minutes for questions lasting a total of one hour. The targeted, informative and relevant topics of the presentation intend to share the experiences and innovations of real industry leaders in the field of mapping, cartography and spatial business.
Audience feedback from the past Meetup has been overwhelmingly positive with many complementing the speakers and the format. The pre- and post- meetup drinks for the Meetup has been sponsored by Hema Maps with support from DNRM for venue and organising the event.
Due to constraints with space and to keep the participation to relevant industry leaders and trailblazers, there will be limited spots available so please register early to avoid disappointment. Looking forward to your participation on the 21st of April 2016 at Level 1, Landcentre DNRM, at 3:30pm

Speaker #1 Chris Schlebusch
Spatial Thinking - Asking the right questions give better answers.

With recent advances in technology and legislation relating to the spatial industry are we leaving the general population behind?
Should Open Data or Data Visualisation be the new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for job postings?
Chris will discuss what is being done to help people ask the right questions thereby enabling the spatial industry to give the best answers. There will be a 5 minute question session after the 10 minute presentation.
Chris Schlebusch is the owner of Rudma Tek (http://www.rudmatek.com.au). Rudma Tek was founded in 2015 to provide GIS services as well as promoting the spatial industry.
Chris arrived in Australia in 2002 as an electronic engineer working in the automotive industry. He completed post graduate studies in GIS and Industrial Design at QUT and then spent 8 years at Resource & Exploration Mapping consulting into the mining and resources industry internationally. He joined the Adani Carmichael project in 2012 and was the GIS Lead until the project restructure at end-2015.
Experiences during the multi-disciplinary Carmichael project highlighted that there is a need for our society to better understand the capabilities of the contemporary spatial industry and for significant public-private partnership to develop efficient reporting, monitoring and compliance frameworks.
Rudma Tek is a SIBA member and Chris is currently the Queensland Branch Chair for SIBA.

#3 - Smart Data Collaboration using Gruntify
If you had 100,000 people to help you with your project, how would you handle it?
Gruntify, a multi-award winning solution developed in Australia, harnesses technologies and techniques such as crowdsourcing, citizen science and sensor networks, for the purpose of collecting data with geographic context and undertaking government, scientific and community projects.
Join us for Founder Igor Stjepanovic’s 10-minute presentation to hear the Gruntify story – what inspired Gruntify creation, how Gruntify evolved from concept to fully working product, and where the platform is going next.
Igor Stjepanovic, Founder of Gruntify
"Worth doing - worth doing properly"
Applying this philosophy to his work, Igor has grown GIS People (http://www.gispeople.com.au) from a $3000 startup in 2010 into one of Australia's fastest growing GIS companies. GIS People reached multi-million dollar annual revenue target in less than 3 years from inception, and averaged 250% year-on-year growth during that time.
In addition to GIS People, Igor also runs Gruntify and Discover Spatial, and organises world’s largest GIS Day events.
