IoT is expected to have a huge impact on social life, commerce, interpersonal relationships and human rights. It invites significant innovation and technological development. Yet, like most tech-oriented trends, it is likely to create social and legal challenges – first and foremost related to advanced data collection and analysis. Addressing these concerns are critical to build consumers' trust in IoT and support innovation. This presentation identifies these challenges, and describes laws and regulation in progress. It is a starting point for a next session about best legal practices for IoT ventures.
