October 2012 - Edge by Koji Suzuki + A macabre true tale of gruesome murder!

Details

This month we decided on Japanese horror author Koji Suzuki's latest novel, Edge, slated as "quantum horror", apparently walking a thin line between horror and science fiction! Koji Suzuki is best know for The Ring series, which have been made into well known horror films both in Japan and the US, so this should be a real halloween treat! To add to the holiday mood of our next meeting, I will be telling a true story of triple gruesome murder from the annals of San Jose's history! After the story we will walk over to the Starbucks at the corner of Third and Santa Clara to warm up and discuss the book.

Here is the plot synopsis for "Edge" from Amazon:
Edge begins with a massive and catastrophic shifting of the San Andreas fault. The fears of California someday tumbling into the sea--that have become the stuff of parody--become real. But even the terror resulting from this catastrophe pales in comparison to the understanding behind its happening, a cataclysm extending beyond mankind's understanding of horror as it had previously been known. The world is falling apart because things are out of joint at the quantum level, about which of course there's never been any guarantee that everything has to remain stable.

P.S. Please note that the meeting place is directly across the street from the listed address, at the northern corner of St. James park, on the corner of E. St James and N. Third. If you show up in front of the athletic club though, I'm sure you will see us.
