We are trying to revive a Singapore JUG with regular meetups with talks, presentations, networking. Welcome is everyone who is interested in Java topics like Java Enterprise, Java Mobile, JavaFX, Frameworks, Android..

We also need people that can contribute, do presentations on their projects or products, help finding locations to meet, etc.

      “The book that Martin Odersky and Bill Venner wrote is helpful in this. what i do like is the implementation of the Actor Model in Scala that makes scaling scala(java)-based applications so much faster (but i suspect its because of the improvements made to the JVM in recent 2 years or so) but what i don't like about it w.r.t concurrency is that there isn't STM (I'm sorry i missed that meetup recently; otherwise we would have talked more about it)”

      “Hi Lee, Those were good points you made about Scala. I have to admit that my use in Scala is only slightly earlier than yourself (approx. 1mth earlier hehe) but i did encounter similar issues that you faced or currently facing. To be honest, the initial learning stage is pretty tough (since it wraps the functional programming part into the OO portion of java) but what helped me understand it more than is really the concept of "type covariance and contravariance" & type inference.”
