Meetup details changed: Open Seattle Japanese Language and Culture Meetup

I've updated this Meetup. For more details, see the full listing:

When: Thursday, August 7,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Madison Beach Park
[masked]rd Ave E
Seattle, WA 98112

In spite of Tuesday morning clouds, it looks like there are good odds of a warm Thursday night, so we're going to make our annual attempt at an outdoor event in Madison Park. Bring your own food! Bring a blanket and/or a picnic mat so you can claim a spot on the grass (or beach, if that's what you're into).

We'll probably be in the northernmost tip of the park this time, where the sand is most prominent, so that Kojiro and Shidou can splash around in the water and play with their buckets and shovels.

Feel free to come a bit early; I've set the start time to 7pm because I suspect our kids will want to run around a bit on the beach before they entertain eating.

If you're coming by bus, I recommend grabbing food from Thai Ginger or the Independent Pizzeria (thin, mostly Italian style pizza), although most of the other spots (McGilvra's pub, Cactus, Bing's) can probably manage a takeout order. If you're coming by car, you may want to stop at Ezell's Fried Chicken at 23rd & E. Jefferson, or Little Uncle Thai around 15th & Madison, or one of the Ethiopian joints around MLK & Cherry. If you want a big shareable pizza, Pagliacci has a spot around 31st & Madison, or Pritty Boys Pizza at 34th & Pike.

Bus access is super-direct with route 11. Parking's generally pretty easy around here, though demand for spaces may spike if we have a really hot day.

Nijikai tends to be at McGilvra's pub in these parts, which is, as I recall, reasonably welcoming to children.

This Meetup repeats every week on Thursday.

If the changes affect your plans to attend, please take a moment to update your RSVP. (You can RSVP "No" or "Yes".)
