October 22nd - Identity Management authorization processes based on XACML.

  • October 22, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Bank of America

Identity Management has evolved over time by externalizing individual security services such as identity stores, provisioning and authentication. When it comes to authorization, the industry has only externalized perimeter (coarse-grained) authorization for URL access, but much of the complex fine grained access logic continues to be hard coded in applications. David Strommer and Cesar Moya from Bank of America will discuss an externalized authorization approach based on XACML.  The approach allows applications to externalize authorization and provides a sophisticated policy model to represent complex authorization requirements.

Big thanks to TEK Systems once again for sponsoring pizza at our event. At the conclusion of our meeting, we will have a drawing for a Telerik Ultimate license, a professional license of any of MindScape's products, and a developers license for many of JetBrains products. We also have some monthly PluralSight subscription vouchers, t-shirts and other give-aways! Reminder: The meeting begins at 6:00 PM (networking), 6:30 PM (presentation), and all our monthly speakers recieve a MindScape MegaPack license for presenting!  For a list of past speakers and presentation over the last 3 years, please visit http://jaxarcsig.wordpress.com

It was great meeting everyone! I am now the official XACML "SME" of TEKsystems. Here is a recap of some interesting data I retrieved from our database: TEK Database = Profiles of 2.4 million+ IT professionals in N. America

    Profiles including XACML:
    - 583 nationwide
    - 21 in FL
    - 2 w/in 150 miles of 32256 Positions requiring XACML:
    - 1 currently open (opened Sept. 2013, in KY)
    - 9 open nationwide since Jan. 2011

    Profiles including CouchDB:
    - 1,179 nationwide
    - 61 in FL
    - 22 w/in 150 miles of 32256

    Positions requiring CouchDB:
    - 6 currently open (opened Aug. 2013)
    - 32 open nationwide since Oct. 2010

What does the TEK database list for OES - Oracle Entitlements Server?

      November 12, 2013

    • Natalie Raab K.

Profiles including "Oracle Entitlement Server" or "Oracle Entitlements Server":
      - 166 nationwide
      - 6 in Florida
      - 3 w/in 150 miles of 32256
      - 3 total requirements since 2011 (all with McGraw Hill in NJ / NY)

If “OES” is added to the above search, the following profiles are retrieved*:
      - 2,145 nationwide
      - 103 in Florida
      - 8 w/in 30 miles and 38 w/in 150 miles of 32256
      - 8 total requirements since 2011 (all with McGraw Hill in NJ / NY)

*Note that OES appears to be an acronym for several other technologies, companies, etc. so the above numbers may not necessarily reflect profiles with “Oracle Entitlement(s) Server” experience

Good advanced-level topic I expect from the JaxArcSIG. I fear the old, easy days of RBAC will be shortly behind us and understanding these new ABAC concepts will help to advance our careers in Enterprise developement where mitigating risk is essential.
