Are you a long-time fan, just getting into it or somewhere in between?

I became a jazz fan when I was 10 years old and heard the Dakota Staton rendition of the Late, Late Show. I listen to all genres but I am most familiar with the post-bop era. Itunes tells me that I have 31,000 mostly jazz titles (or 140 days of nonproductive time). I have (nearly) complete discographies of many jazz artists, including McLean, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Adderley, Dolphy, Getz, Tjader, Puente, Simone and more. I hosted a weekly 2 hour jazz program for Armed Forces Radio back in the Stone Age.

What are your favorite venues for listening to the music?

I've attended the PDX Jazz Festival for the four years I've been in Portland. I go to Jazz Alley in Seattle regularly and Jimmy Maks occasionally.

(Optional, just curious) Do you currently, or did you at one time, play any instruments?

I played tenor sax and flute in high school. I haven't touched an instrument in several decades.

Hi, I'm Earl and I am a recovering jazz fanatic. I relocated to Portland from the Bay Area four years ago. I am semi-retired. I am very active, have several hobbies - including jazz and photography. I am a nice guy.
