Jhakaas Film Club is a meetup group for desi film/movie lovers from any culture or background. Although the primary focus will be on Hindi ("Bollywood") movies, we can change things up once in a while up with movies in other languages (Malyalam, Urdu, Tamil, etc.).
FAQs & General Info
What does Jhakaas mean?
We'd like to start with simple Movie outings and maybe some Dinner + Movie nights. These could be at theaters or at someone's place (it would have to be for movies that aren't newly released). However, we'd like to expand into more creative ones such as game nights that focus on movies (Antakshari, Dumb Charades, etc.) or anything else that you, our awesome members, come up with!
Lastly, please feel free to use this meetup group to share ideas for meetups (http://www.meetup.com...) or start discussions relating to desi movies (http://www.meetup.com....
We want to make this group successful so we would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Tell me more about Indian films/movies!
Films produced across India, including the cinematic culture of Mumbai along with the cinematic traditions of states such as Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Indian films came to be followed throughout South Asia and the Middle East. As cinema as a medium gained popularity in the country as many as 1,000 films in various languages of India were produced annually. Expatriates in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States continued to give rise to international audiences for Hindi-language films, some of which—according to the Encyclopædia Britannica (2009) entry on Bollywood—continued to carry "formulaic story lines, expertly choreographed fight scenes, spectacular song-and-dance routines, emotion-charged melodrama, and larger-than-life heroes."This is also true for commercial Tamil cinema and Telugu cinema. On the other hand, it is contrasted by the 'Parallel Cinema' movement, prominent in Bengali cinema, Malayalam cinema, Kannada cinema, and other regional industries, known for its serious content, realism and naturalism.
