The Greensand Way Section 7 - Betchworth to Gomshall

  • Sep 1, 2013 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The journey so far

Section 7 – 16.5 miles

The end time given for this event is the approximate time of arrival at Gomshall at the end of the hike.

Please read the Three Golden Rules of Joined Up Hiking.

Are you OK with those? All right, then you may continue...

This is a another very long hike and very hilly. Be prepared for a strenuous all-day trek at a consistent medium fast pace.

We pick up the Greensand Way where we left it at the pub last time round, then it's through some more nice countryside into Dorking and out the other side. A couple of miles further on we turn South and start the ascent through the woods towards Leith Hill. Half-way up we turn off the Greensand Way and walk for several more miles on wooded slopes and rolling meadows down to Gomshall.

After more than seven hours including a break for a picnic lunch out on the path we will get to the village of Gomshall which offers both a pub for a much-needed drink and a railway station for the train journey home.

You must bring a packed lunch.

Some general recommendations and tips.

My thanks to Chris for organising another lovely day out-casually strolling amongst the " hills" :-)) of Surrey. The day as always was made by all the beautiful, chatty, sociable dudes who came along.

Highlight of the day: The invention of a multiple participant stimulation technique using all 8 fingers and 2 thumbs. All we need now is an patent lawyer .........................:-))

As the French would say "aux grands maux, les grands remèdes! "

Still need a fourth person to join us at Clapham Junction for the return journey rather than hiking into London Bridge. I'll purchase the return tickets so you just need to pitch up on the platform (will post platform number and time later)

  • Em

Hi, we need a 4th person to join us at Clapham Junction to get return tickets from there - if anyone is coming from SE or SW london and doesn't want to go up to London Bridge, let me know!
