Journocoders workshop: Command the command line

Details

Using the command line (also referred to as the terminal) provides incredible control over your computer and access to a huge number of powerful developer tools. It's tricky at first, but is an invaluable tool for developers and data journalists.

At this month's Journocoders -- back in the News Building once again -- we'll be learning to use the command line. There will be two tutorials (which you can find on the hackpad (https://journocoders.hackpad.com/Journocoders-August-2015-Ki7LinwFuqM)): One for those new to the command line, and another will be for those already familiar with the basics (covering data extraction tools grep, sed and awk). No previous programming experience is required.

We're still experimenting with the event's format, so this time we're trying out having the Show and Tell section halfway through. Will it work better? Will it be a disaster? Let's find out!

Important information:
• Collaborative hackpad is here (https://journocoders.hackpad.com/Journocoders-August-2015-Ki7LinwFuqM).• Please add your full name to Meetup.com for our guest list.
• Make sure to bring a laptop.

8:15: Show and Tell [experimental timeslot]

9.00: The pub!
