Hey Provocateurs,

Make plans now for:

Tonight, Friday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Perkins:
Astrophysicist Brian Thomas on:

Find out what it's like to work together with a bunch of researchers to get to the bottom of a huge natural mystery, then what's involved in getting it published.

RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/ProvocateursAndPeacemakers/events/30473041/

Dr. Brian Thomas will give an overview of how science works, and then tell us what happened behind the scenes when he and his colleagues explored the question of what happened 12,900 years ago to wipe out the North American megafauna and the Clovis human culture.

How did they find evidence for cometary airbursts as a possible cause for the sudden extinction of the large animals that once roamed North America, along with a whole society of humans, 12,900 years ago? He will take some question during this hour, and then we'll open it up to Q&A and your general discussion for the second hour.
Dr. Thomas appeared in a History Channel documentary on the show "Mega Disasters," where he discussed his research group's GRB-mass extinction work.
See the details and RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/ProvocateursAndPeacemakers/events/30473041/
(This will be a great time of learning, discussing, and then more conversation afterward at Callahan's or The Green Mill or another nearby location if the other two are packed.)
